The Journey With Baby Richmond Koroma

Movement For Youth & Children Rights Organization International > Portfolios > Health > The Journey With Baby Richmond Koroma

As part of our organization’s mandate, we work to support children whose lives faced life-threatening challenges. In waterloo town, Western Area Rural District, we came across the Late Madam Margaret Vandy, who presented us a story about Richmond. She went to a village called Ribbin in Moyamba district to visit a friend, whiles in this village; she thought of walking down the river, whiles on her way, she had a voice of a child in the bush. She stopped and carefully traces the voice or streaming of a child, she finally saw Richmond rapped and left under a tree in the bush to die. She had great sympathy and decided to take the child to the village. She was quickly rejected and warned not to bring the child to the village because they said the child is was a devil. Meeting with the child’s parents, they also reaffirmed that the child is a devil, they don’t want him. Madam Margaret then told them, she will take the child.

Our team met with Margaret when she was almost giving up. She wanted to return the child to where she took him because of a lack of funds or resources to upkeep the child. On the day we met with Margaret and this child, he was extremely sick and malnourished. Since then we took up their responsibility until when Margaret got sick and passed on and we fully took Richmond as our Child whose medication, surgery, and upkeep became our responsibility.

As an organization, we shared this journey with our friends and partners in the USA, since then, they have joined us in building the life of Richmond.

From being malnourished and sick, Richmond has undergone thorough treatments and is now nourished, whiles in this process, he was involved in a road accident with the Executive Director of MYCRO, he was then hospitalized with a fractured leg. Healing from a leg fracture, he has undergone his mouth surgery and now recovered and growing well.

Our hope is to help make Richmond’s Life meaningful. We expressed our thanks and appreciation to our partners and team of the Greater works Discipleship Making Movement (USA, Ghana, and Sierra Leone) for all their prayers, financial support, and encouragement. God bless you.
